Fire in Valley Center kept to five acres

Firefighters were able to keep a grass fire that broke out today (Sat., June 21) to five acres, authorities have reported.

According to Cal Fire, the small fire erupted at 17200 Bear Valley Lane, near Lake Wohlford Road just before noon and had burned two acres by the time firefighters reached the scene.

It would have been easy for the blaze to grow to 15 acres, authorities said.

At 12:15 p.m. Cal Fire officials said the fire's rate of spread had been stopped at five acres and that air tankers and other units were being released.
