Crash on southbound I-15 injures four adults, one infant

Four adults and an infant were injured in a three-vehicle crash in North County Saturday, a crash that shut down northbound Interstate 15, the Escondido Fire Department said.

The crash occurred about 12:06 p.m. on the northbound 15 approaching Highway 78, Battalion Chief Mike Bertrand said. According to a CHP report, two sedans and a Chevy Tahoe SUV were involved.

Emergency responders found five victims at the scene including one infant and requested the help of additional resources, including Mercy Air, Bertrand said.

Three of the victims were taken to Palomar Medical Center and two went to Sharp Memorial Hospital, Bertrand said. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

According to the CHP, multiple lanes were blocked and a SigAlert was issued at 12:17 p.m. All northbound lanes were closed at 12:39 p.m. for the Mercy Air helicopter to land.

All lanes reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
