Amber Alert issued across SoCal as search continues for woman, two children

An Amber Alert was issued across Southern California today, including in Riverside County, as a search continued for a woman and her two children, whom she allegedly abducted from the Los Angeles home where they were living in their grandmother's custody.

The two asthmatic children, a 9-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother, were taken from the home in the 1700 block of West 35th Place around 3 p.m. Monday, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jane Kim.

They were reported missing by their grandmother -- the suspect's mother -- around 10 a.m. Tuesday and were last seen at 4:15 p.m. that day in the Northridge area, Kim said.

Ameenah Rasheedah Freeman, 37, may be driving a maroon 2011 Ford Edge with paper plates with "Airport Marina'' written on them, the LAPD reported.

The Amber Alert was activated by the California Highway Patrol for Riverside, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino and Imperial counties. However, the wireless emergency alert and the changeable message signs along freeways were not being activated because there is no license plate number for the vehicle, according to the CHP.

Police said Freeman went to her mother's house Wednesday night without the children and appeared to be "disoriented.'' Someone called 911, and Freeman left before police arrived.

Adoniah Freeman, 9, is black, 4 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 97 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink dress with white flowers.

Emanuel Freeman, 8, is black, 4 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 94 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black "Mario Brothers'' T-shirt, black shorts with white stripes and black sandals.

Ameenah Freeman, is black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs around 160 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black dress with black sandals.

Kim said it was not known why Freeman did not have custody of her children. Anyone seeing the woman or the children was urged to call 911. Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact Detective D. Johnson of the
