UPDATE: Medical Examiner says 18-year-old killed in Olive Hill crash was Juan Zamudio of Fallbrook

The San Diego County Medical Examiner (ME) has released the identity of the 18-year-old man killed in a Fallbrook crash on Sat., Aug. 16.

Juan Daniel Zamudio of Fallbrook was the right front passenger in a vehicle that collided with a tree in the 4700 block of Olive Hill Road.

The ME reported that Zumudio was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident but was in a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Olive Hill Road, just south of the intersection of Morro Hills Road, when the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the side of the road, struck a tree, and continued down the embankment.

The driver of the vehicle and a passenger in the back seat sustained major injuries in the crash and were transported via medical helicopter to regional hospitals.

According to an earlier report from the California Highway Patrol, it appears alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. All the men in the vehicle were estimated originally to be between 18 and 20 years old. Authorities have not released the names of the other men.

One man was killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday evening in Fallbrook.

According to Sgt. Hall of the California Highway Patrol, on August 16 at approximately 5:20 p.m., an unknown Hispanic male between the age of 18 and 20 was driving a 1996 Honda Civic southbound on Olive Hill Road, south of Morro Hills Road, at a high rate of speed. When the driver entered a left curve in the roadway, he failed to properly negotiate the curve and veered to the right. The vehicle left the roadway and collided into a tree.

"The right front passenger, an unknown Hispanic male 18 to 20 years old succumbed to injuries as a result of the collision," said Hall. "The right rear passenger, also a male between the age of 18 to 20, and the driver were taken by [medical helicopter] to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries."

"This collision is still under investigation and alcohol appears to have been a factor," said Hall.

According to the CHP, Olive Hill Road was closed at the scene of the accident for approximately two hours.

No names of those involved have been released by authorities at this time.
