UPDATE: Suspect contacted - no weapon found in case of possible shooter on campus of CSU San Marcos; campus off lockdown

UPDATE: An update has been issued that the suspect has been contacted by law enforcement authorities and no weapon was found. The campus lockdown has been lifted.

According to students at Cal State San Marcos, the campus has been locked down (Wed., Aug. 20) due to a suspicious person reportedly with a rifle on campus.

Campus security issued an alert to all students stating "Shelter in place; lock and barricade at your current location. Await further instructions. We have a report of a man on campus with a rifle. Description: white male, bald head, black shirt, jeans. Attention personnel in the Science Hall: Law enforcement is making entry into your area."

The San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. said they are responding to the report although they are not confirming that there is a shooter on campus at this time.
