Garden club's birthday festivities include hat contest and tower garden

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Garden Club will celebrate its 86th birthday at its meeting on Tuesday, March 28 at the Fallbrook Community Center located at 341 Heald Lane. The social time will begin at 12:30 p.m. with birthday cake and ice cream sundaes.

Members are requested to bring toppings for the ice cream for this celebration. There will also be a "Mad Hat Contest" and members are encouraged to decorate hats. Winners for the "Most Creative" and "Most Beautiful" hat will be awarded a gift card to Myrtle Creek.

The speaker for the program will be Elaine Bryan who will discuss "Growing Your Own Food with a Tower Garden." She will show how people can grow their own food using tower gardens which are self sufficient and can be used almost anywhere.

These gardens provide a sustainable form of growing fresh food that uses 90 percent less water, and also saves space and time.

Tickets will be on sale at the meeting for the Garden Tour which takes place Saturday, April 29. Advance purchase is $20 per ticket and $25 the day of the tour.

Proceeds from the tour will support scholarships for students pursuing a degree in horticultural or agricultural related fields of study. Also, members will be encouraged to volunteer for various positions for the home tours as well as the plant sale which will be held at the Fallbrook Historical Society.
