Fallbrook Union High School's girls varsity water polo team is enjoying a great start to the season and Monday morning, head coach Sean Redmond was a little anxious. Anxious may not be the right word, how about anxiously excited? "We're patiently waiting for the power rankings to come out," Redmond said. "They should have been out this morning but they're not." The rankings will help Redmond and the team figure out where they stand countywide – and considering they boast a 1...

A 2-0 home loss Dec. 19 against Rancho Buena Vista gave Fallbrook High School's girls soccer team a season record of 0-4 to begin the 2019-20 season. "We had a rough start," said Fallbrook coach Sergio Garcia. The power rankings which are the primary factor in CIF playoff selection and seeding include strength of schedule as well as win-loss record, and Garcia believes that the Warriors' pre-league schedule will prepare his players for Valley League and postseason play as...

Fallbrook High School head volleyball coach Jason Dale would have preferred to end his first season as the Warriors' coach with a loss in the CIF playoffs rather than with a win to conclude the regular season, but Dale and his players settled for a victory "We ended our season with a win. We had a great home win against Valley Center our Senior Night," Dale said. "It was a good kind of finish to the season." The three-game victory over the Jaguars took place Oct. 25. "That...
This letter is in regard to the Fallbrook High School sports headlines that appeared in the Oct. 3 issue of this paper after a recent girls’ tennis match and varsity football game. As a fan of youth sports and a proud grandparent of teenage athletes, I was disappointed to read “Lady Warriors Routed by Lady Sundevils” and “Warriors Still Winless after Serra Runs Wild.” The words journalists choose to inform the public have impact. The “right” words can inspire, and success should not be measured by wins and losses. Knowi...

As a soccer player at Fallbrook High School this season, Audrey Petersen was the best player in the league. The rest of the coaches in the league agreed, and that's why she was named First Team All-League and Player of the Year in the Valley League this season. It is clear that Petersen made a big impact on all those that competed against and alongside the senior, who was named one of Fallbrook High's Athletes of the Year at the school's Senior ASB Assembly. "Audrey is a...

The Warriors and Pointers held each other to zero runs through the fifth inning, until Point Loma was able to adjust to a change in pitching and broke the scoring silence, getting the upper hand on Fallbrook with a 2-0 lead to end the fifth. The Pointers continued to gain momentum, earning an additional three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh and...
In her first four dual meets of the 2019 track and field season and at the Bronco Invitational, nobody could catch Fallbrook High School junior Erin Murray in the 400 meters. It's not likely that many runners will this season. The three-year varsity letterman was nominated by coach Marco Arias for Athlete of the Week not only because she hasn't been caught, but because "she leads both by example and by motivating others to do their best in all that they do." Sure, she entered...
