  • If you can't resolve them, perfect last year's mistakes

    Updated Jan 19, 2012

An old year is fading and a new year is upon us again. Looking back over the old year, I worry that my blunders were not as bad as they could have been. Did I make all the gaffes I possibly could? Did I meet my quota? The New Year offers the opportunity to start over. Actually, what happens is people simply make new mistakes curiously similar to the mistakes made during the old year. What a waste of time. What is wrong with my old mistakes? The only thing I can think of is...

  • It's a Christmas tree, not a "Holiday" tree

    Updated Dec 22, 2011

Many reasons exist why a person should love and embrace the Christmas season. I hear of those who attack the Christmas season and I take no notice of them at all. The thing that keeps these people energized is the attention paid to them. If they were really serious about their so-called beliefs, they would leave the country during the Christmas season and go somewhere it is not celebrated. Ignoring those people, I snuggle down and enjoy the Christmas festivities. There is so m...

  • Why I love the month of December

    Updated Dec 15, 2011

It was a wise person who divided the year into 12 months. I really do not know who came up with this idea, but let me go on record in saying that it was a good one. While each month has its own peculiar value, some months are better than others. For example, I am not a member of January’s fan club. I am not sure if it is the longest month of the year but at times, it sure seems to be. I really have to say that my favorite month of the year has to be December. Maybe this g...

  • Take time to digest your blessings

    Updated Dec 1, 2011

Just a few days ago, I was seated with my family and friends around the Thanksgiving table. I won’t say I ate too much. I did, I just won’t say it. Why is it on Thanksgiving we give ourselves permission to gorge ourselves to the point of semi-consciousness? Of course, a great thing about Thanksgiving is the fabulous dinner spread, surrounded by family and friends. It is truly a time to give thanks to God for the manifold blessings he has showered on us throughout the year. Alt...

  • Give us this day our turkey

    Updated Nov 25, 2011

Thanksgiving is my kind of holiday. Apart from the “thanks” part, the primary purpose of this celebration is eating. That is the one thing I do quite well. Our Pilgrim Fathers came up with the idea of a Thanksgiving feast. I’m sure that our Pilgrim Mothers were too busy doing the wash and caring for the children to think of any more work. The Pilgrim Fathers were sitting around waiting for someone to invent television so they could all watch a football game when someone had a...

  • I don't mind flying; it's airports I can't stand

    Updated Nov 10, 2011

Recently, I needed to make a trip to visit some relatives. These days, the way the economy and gas prices are, it turns out to be cheaper to fly. Even though, airlines no longer serve the delicious food of which they became famous. Several aspects about airplanes give me cause for alarm. The person who designed the modern-day airplane must have used one of the dwarfs for a model. I’m thinking, Grumpy. The seats, for example, are not built for the average posterior. I know I need to go on a diet, but my airplane seat does n...
