FPUD and SDG&E give $175 toward water-saving washers

FALLBROOK — Purchasing a new, high-efficiency clothes washer just got $175 cheaper.

That’s because the Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD) has partnered with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) in a program that will give customers a voucher valued at $175 toward the purchase of a new water-saving, energy-efficient washing machine. Vouchers work like a coupon and must be obtained prior to purchasing the washers.

The front-loading washers use 60 percent less water and 55 percent less energy, produce cleaner laundry and require 50 percent less drying time for clothes.

The washers tend to be more expensive, however, than traditional top-loading machines.

Quantities are limited. The district will continue to participate in this program on a trial basis to determine public interest in the washing machines; therefore, only 65 of the vouchers will be available to Fallbrook consumers this year, on a first-come, first-served basis. The board of directors will evaluate the success of the program, and whether it will participate again, next year.

Consumers interested in receiving a voucher or more information can call (800) 986-4538.
