New rector at St. John's Episcopal Church

The parishioners of Saint John’s Episcopal Church are proud to announce the assignment of Father Wayne Sanders as their rector. Although new to Fallbrook, he is no stranger to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. After being ordained as priest in 1966 and serving in the United States Navy as a chaplain until 1974, he joined the newly formed Diocese of San Diego as the headmaster/assistant of All Saint’s Episcopal School in Hillcrest, remaining there until 1978. In 1978, he was called to be the vicar of Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in University City, where he remained for the next 28 years until his retirement from “Good Sam” last year. Subsequent to retirement he served as the canon for Ecumenical and Inter-religious Affairs for the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego until his assignment to St. John’s.

Father Sanders stated that he is “looking forward to growing St. John’s Episcopal Church and serving the Lord in our faith community.” His rich background as a priest and an educator, and his extensive participation in various commissions and committees of the diocese, are a blessing to the St. John’s congregation and will serve them well as they grow. His wife of 32 years, Kathy, who is a guidance aide at Foster Elementary School in Allied Gardens, will also be there to support St. John’s as needed.
