Oceanside ends Fallbrook's streak in cribbage match

The cribbage players on the Oceanside Senior Challenge Cribbage team were smiling as they eked out a win in the August 24 match. They had 61 wins to the Fallbrook team’s 58 wins in the 34-player match.

The upcoming match on September 27 will mark the fifth anniversary of the Senior Challenge Cribbage Match sponsored by the Oceanside and Fallbrook Senior Centers. In the 55 matches Fallbrook leads 31 to 24.

Marty Hess of the winning Oceanside team pulled in first place with six wins and a skunk to edge out Fallbrook pegger Judy Gilbertson, who also won six with the skunk but had a slightly smaller win margin. The remaining top six positions were split between the teams with Fallbrook’s Roni Brownlee, Wilf Ash and Ed Wozniak taking third, fourth and sixth, respectively, and Oceanside players Anne Flaherty, Bob Rebar and Gerri Zavala placing fifth, seventh and eighth.

Glenrose Sheffel of the winning Fallbrook team won the $25 gift card donated by the Albertsons on Marron Road and Oceanside Boulevard, Oceanside.

The matches are held on the fourth Thursday of the month and consist of seven games. The fifth anniversary match will be held September 28 at the Vista Elks Lodge at 1947 East Vista Way. Phone: (760) 724-1968.

The play begins at 12:30 p.m. and all who enjoy cribbage are invited to join the fun. Those who would like lunch should come at 11:30 a.m. Players needn’t reside in Oceanside or Fallbrook.
