Our blood has been wasted

The attack of 9/11 was horrendous, no question about it. What has transpired since, however, has played directly into the hands of Al Queda. With a single blow they have completely transformed life in the US as we know it. They have won a big victory, and without the need for an encore. Billions of taxpayer dollars have gone to provide questionable systems and equipment all mandated by a new bureaucracy called “Homeland Security.”

The initial attempt to capture/kill Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan was well founded. Pity it was allowed to wither on the vine when we allowed this administration to talk us into providing billions of dollars to the military/industrial complex for a war against an already emasculated Iraq. If I’d have been in charge following 9/11 I’d have stated outright that they (the terrorists) are not going to win by turning the US into a fortress at the expense of our personal freedoms. I’d have told Osama, “You got us this time but we will find you and kill you. In the meantime we will not allow you to frighten us. We will maintain our American ways and our personal freedoms. If that means getting hit again, so be it. Sooner or later we will get you and in the meantime we’ll continue to live in a free society.”

Unfortunately, our blood and national treasure has been terribly wasted in the past five years and for what?
