It is amazing how many people believe things

With regard to Glen Holzhausen’s letter (9/7/06, “None are so blind as those who won’t see”), after commenting on the “Anti-Semitism” expression and Arab-Israel conflict, suddenly he offers up “for all the Bush-bashing Democrats” a list of major wars of the past century showing the number of American fatalities from each. We see that Democrat presidents happened to be in power during wars with the highest number of fatalities. Apparently, he’s attempting to make a correlation between Democratic presidents and higher war fatalities. I find this naïve. Those wars were fought in different times, under very different circumstances.

He even seems to think there have been only 300 American fatalities in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. As of today’s date, the official number stands at 2,666-plus in Iraq alone. In all likelihood, the actual number is higher.

He argues the obvious: terrorists should not be encouraged, they’re serious, they’re bad, so forth. His letter, though, seems to draw a connection between the Iraq war and the terrorists. Sorry to break this news to him: Bush & Company’s invading Iraq had nothing to do with the terrorists or 9/11 but an awful lot to do with oil and control. It is amazing how many people believe things that aren’t so, indeed.
