'Meet the Author' series continues Sept. 30

FALLBROOK — The Bottom Shelf bookstore will continue its “Meet the Author” series on Saturday, September 30, with appearances by Arch Barnes at 10:30 a.m. and Kirby Wright at 1:30 p.m.

Arch Barnes is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Redlands and a former senior executive with Tenneco, Inc. In recent years he has turned his talents to fiction and poetry. In 2000 he published his first mystery novel, “Old Dogs, New Tricks” followed in 2002 by “In for a Penny.”

His current novel, “Unconscious,” traces the anguish of Brendan Carlson, whose wife is in a deep coma. Attempting to reach her subconscious, he inadvertently gains access to the mind of a killer and the details he learns lead to his becoming a suspect in the killings. The sequel, “Blood Brothers,” will be available before the end of the year.

Kirby Wright’s “Punahou Blues” is the story of growing up in Honolulu for Jeffrey Gill. After he gets into prestigious Punahou School, his rite of passage includes losing the girl of his dreams to a creep, surviving Killahaole Day and getting pushed around by the school bully.

Wright was born and raised in Honolulu, HI, and is a graduate of Punahou School and the University of California at San Diego. He received his MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State University, where he studied under the tutelage of Frances Mayes, author of “Under the Tuscan Sun.”

The Bottom Shelf, located on the lower level of the library at 124 South Mission, is operated by Friends of the Fallbrook Library and all proceeds benefit the library and its programs. The bookstore is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (760) 728-3835.
