I am interested in perspective, honesty and integrity

I read your recent article regarding the possible conflict of interest attributed to three of the Fallbrook Union High School District school board member candidates. At my first reading, it appeared that your recent article regarding the possibility of a conflict of interest for one or more of the Fallbrook Union High School Board candidates was in the public interest but, after reading it a second time, it seems to me that the article was skewed toward influencing the public thoughts toward candidates ahead of the relevant and pertinent facts rather than providing the facts.

“Legal” conflicts of interest can be defined and have been dealt with responsibly by elected officials for years; thus, the critical issue is to identify the conflicts of interest (if any) for existing and aspiring board members and deal with them responsibly rather than to “label” candidates ahead of time that could unnecessarily create an unfavorable impression of one or more of the candidates.

I am much more interested in the perspective, honesty and integrity of the individuals who are seeking to continue or become a new board member to include the approach they plan to take when dealing with the many issues facing the district (including identified conflict[s] of interest, should any arise) rather than any attempt to negatively influence my thoughts toward board candidates by generalized information such as recently published.

I trust you will be providing relevant, pertinent and factual information in the future.

Les Shuck
