Lucerne Festival Strings first concert of FMS season

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook Music Society’s (FMS) new Symphony Season opens with the superb artistry of Lucerne Festival Strings from Switzerland at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, in the Bob Burton Center for Performing Arts. “I’m really looking forward to this season,” says FMS President Brenda Montiel. “It is an energizing combination of old and new, familiar and unfamiliar; a season of landmark debuts and anticipated return appearances.”

This internationally renowned ensemble regularly performs in European music centers and throughout the world. This performance, under the direction of Artistic Director Achim Fiedler, features “Antichesis,” commissioned by Lucerne Festival Strings in honor of their 50th anniversary. The United States premiere will take place in Fallbrook.

The October 8 program includes Hayden’s “Violin Concerto in C Major,” Mozart’s “Divertimento in B-flat Major,” Beat Furrer’s “Antichesis,” Stravinsky’s “Concerto in D (Basle Concerto)” and Mendelssohn’s “Sinfonia VI in E-flat Major.”

One of the highlights of the season will be the introduction of the Virtuoso Series. In a solo performance on October 29, international concert pianist John Novacek will present a dynamic program encompassing works by major composers such as Liszt and Mozart to his own original ragtime pieces for piano. The second concert in the series will be presented on Sunday, February 18, and features “Conjunto Ibérico,” the world’s only full-time cello octet, and the young Spanish soprano Pilar Jurado. Ms. Jurado will enchant the audience with her stunning earthy voice and emotional range.

All performances take place at 3 p.m. in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts in Fallbrook, with a conductor’s preview at 2:30 p.m., open to all ticket holders. Five- and four-concert season subscriptions are available. For ticket information, call (760) 451-8644 or go online to http://www.fallbrookmusicsociety.org.
