National honor for local artist

Carly Castillon has been accepted into the prestigious Oil Painters of America (OPA) competition and show. The Western regional OPA is held this October at the Lee Youngman gallery in Calistoga, CA. The painting “The Planting of the First Pepper Tree” was the work selected. It is one of a series of historical paintings of mission times from the 1700s.

Carly is a graduate of Fallbrook Union High School, Palomar College Art Department and the Pasadena Art Center College of Design. Fallbrook Fine Art has featured Castillon in three one-woman shows and will host a fourth show in the spring entitled “Trees of Fallbrook.”

The artist’s reception and awards ceremony will be held at Lee Youngman Gallery, 1316 Lincoln Ave in Calistoga, CA, beginning at 4 p.m. More information at (800) 551-0585. The OPA show will hang through October 31.

Lee Love, daughter of artist Ralph Love, met the artist Paul Youngman at the Western Art in the Grand Tradition shows that were held at the Grand Tradition from 1986 to 1992. They married and now the Aichles, who developed the show at which they met, are escorting their artist daughter-in-law Carly Castillon Aichle to the OPA at their gallery.
