Supervisors adjourn meeting in memory of Edith Blasier

The September 19 meeting of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors was adjourned in memory of Fallbrook’s Edith Blasier.

Blasier, who had lived in Fallbrook since 1973, passed away August 2 at the age of 74. “Edith Blasier was a special part of our community, and she will be missed,” said Supervisor Bill Horn, who read the adjournment in memory.

Blasier was born on December 25, 1931, in Nashville, TN. Her family moved to the Los Angeles area in 1946, and Blasier earned a degree in Social Studies from the University of Southern California. Blasier also met her husband, John, at USC, and they were married during their senior year.

Blasier initially began work as a social worker for Los Angeles County, but she later became a full-time homemaker. After moving to Fallbrook she pursued a second career as a substitute teacher. She learned to speak Spanish fluently and was active with English as a Second Language students at Fallbrook High School.

Her bilingual skills and her desire to perform community service enabled her to found the Fallbrook Mission Project, which later became known as the Fallbrook Community Project, in 1989. Blasier and her husband also worked with Brother Benno’s.

Blasier also served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader for many years. “Her husband said she loved serving people and she loved the Lord,” Horn said.

Blasier was also active in politics and was twice elected as a Republican Women’s Club chapter president.

Blasier was diagnosed with cancer three weeks before she passed away. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her son, Robert; her daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Darcy Rice; and two grandchildren.
