Comments on letters regarding candidates

I would like to comment on several letters appearing in the 9/21/06 edition of the Village News which had to do with the upcoming Fallbrook Union High School Board election. One of the letters entitled “Candidate Forum Important” was written by me urging community residents to attend upcoming forums and school board meetings and hear the issues.

There were two other articles related to this same topic. One, entitled “Save Our Schools with your vote,” was written by a 28-year resident whose children have already graduated. She decided to attend the recent forum in order to hear all the candidates and then make her decision.

Much to my surprise, the other article, entitled “You’re got to be kidding,” made sarcastic comments, which personally attacked one of the candidates currently running for the board. This person stated that she observed many incidences of what she considered poor leadership, careless decision making and unprofessional behavior; she also called this candidate “unsuitable.” These are extremely strong personal statements. She continued to mention that she was not alone.

Attacking an individual will not solve the issues facing Fallbrook High School. I would challenge the writer of this article to appear at the forums or board meetings in person. Focus needs to be on issues facing the students at Fallbrook High School, not on personal, individual attacks.
