I will never return to Fallbrook

I was born, raised and lived in Fallbrook for 40 years. I have not been back since I moved 15 years ago. On a trip down to San Diego, I decided to make a detour and show my grandchildren where I was born and raised. I was constantly telling my northern California friends and grandchildren about Fallbrook and what a beautiful and friendly village it is.

What a shock! The friendly, beautiful village that I was bragging about turned into a barrio. North Fallbrook is full of barrio-looking furniture stores, liquor stores, markets and tattoo parlors. There is even a trailer park advertising rents as low as $350 a month. North Mission Road was filthy, with trash, abandoned buildings and illegals loafing around at the Texaco station.

I was sick as I drove along North Mission and Main Avenue. The village planners and elected representatives should be very ashamed of what they allowed to happen to such a beautiful community. The residents of Fallbrook should rise up and fight against the dismantling of what was once a community to be proud of.

I will never again come back to Fallbrook, and when I speak of my birthplace I will refer to it as “North San Diego County.”
