Dave Stamey to appear in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — Dave Stamey doesn’t categorize easily as a cowboy singer. He does no familiar cowboy songs but his own original songs are being recorded these days by so many other western-style performers that he’s building a western tradition of his own.

Stamey is a cowboy. He works with horses for a living, though he says life is easier now that he’s spending so much time on the road as a touring musician. He’s not getting bucked off nearly as often.

He writes pictures of a west we all know and love and he knows it well because he lives it. His music is gorgeous, often funny, and his performance is flawless. He is rapidly becoming one of the most popular western entertainers working today and was named Male Performer of the Year by the Western Music Association and is a three-time nominee for Songwriter of the Year.

Meanwhile, he has produced five CDs, the latest being “If I Had a Horse,” which contains 12 original songs, including “Somewhere West of Laramie,” which was co-written with Fallbrook’s own cowboy singer and poet, Ken Graydon. The album’s first pressing sold out in six months.

Stamey was recently featured in magazines Cowboys and Indians and Persimmon Hill. Taylor Guitars used photos of him in their 2004 catalog, so his image has been well placed for many to see.

Trails and Rails featuring Walt Richards and Paula Strong will open for Stamey in Fallbrook at the Hilltop Center, 331 East Elder, Saturday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are sold at Major Market and the door. Call (760) 723-7255 for information.
