Nostalgic plans for holiday season downtown

A flurry of holiday activities, if not snow, will begin November 25 when Bob Kilgore, this season’s official Santa, lights the Christmas tree in the Village Square. Presented by the Downtown Merchants and Connections networking group, this event officially kicks off Fallbrook’s holiday shopping season.

A week later, on December 2, the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce will present its 25th Annual Christmas Parade, themed “Home for Christmas,” with the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses as its featured attraction. First used in 1933 to send a case of Budweiser beer to New York Governor Al Smith marking the end of prohibition, the team has been on tour ever since. The Christmas Parade starts at 5 p.m. and traverses Main Avenue through the middle of Fallbrook.

With her usual energy in its highest gear, Honorary Mayor Rhonda Reinke has challenged all the businesses in Fallbrook to ramp up their holiday promotions and extend operating hours to include Sundays for customers wishing to “shop Fallbrook first” from November through December. To encourage shoppers to visit downtown, a weekly scavenger hunt with a free lunch prize is planned and Sunday activities will include carriage rides, live music and refreshments.

On the kickoff weekend, the Fallbrook Art Association will extend its juried show to include Sunday, November 26, and throughout Joyful Traditions, Village Ceramics will offer crafts each Sunday.

A plus, says Reinke will be total illumination of holiday lighting in the downtown. “We will have new and safe electrical outlets for our downtown holiday lights thanks to Bigley Electric,” she says. More thanks, says Reinke, to Miss Fallbrook and her court, who will assist Kilgore as he continues his appearance as Santa from 1 to 3 p.m. each Sunday from November 25 to Christmas. Look for the “jolly old elf” in the Village Square.

To keep customers energized while shopping, Caffé Primo is promoting a special offer to people who show receipts for purchases made while shopping in Fallbrook. Caffé Primo and the Yogurt Palace will also be open on Sunday throughout the Joyful Traditions activities.
