Why is teacher's union so determined to take over?

The choice for local voters will be fairly simple this election season when we decide who should run the Fallbrook High School District. If we want the district run by the Teacher’s Union, then voters should elect the three hand-picked candidates offered up, namely, Bill O’Connor, Marc Steffler and Mike Schulte. All three are the spouses of current or recently retired members of the Teacher’s Union. Marc Steffler was a member of the Fallbrook Teacher’s Union until just a few years ago and Bill O’Connor recently retired from the Poway School District, where he was a member of the Teacher’s Union.

Why is the Teacher’s Union so determined to take over the school district? They claim it’s because their morale is low (at least according to the survey the union conducted itself!) and that the current superintendent, Tom Anthony, doesn’t communicate well enough with them. Perhaps the real problem is that the superintendent communicates all too well with certain members of the Teacher’s Union.

No doubt Mr. Anthony’s unwillingness to accept mediocrity is very threatening to some Teacher’s Union members. Other members are understandably annoyed by his requirement that they actually teach their students, rather than having them ‘learn’ by reading newspapers and watching videos the entire class period. Still other union members are offended because Mr. Anthony has the nerve to require them to wear something other than gym shorts and a t-shirt all day long while teaching classes. No, not PE classes, but regular core classes!

Then there are those Teacher’s Union members who use their class preparation period to leave campus early nearly every day to attend to their golf game or other personal errands. Let’s not forget about Mr. Anthony’s objection to the physical threats and acts of intimidation exhibited by selected members of the union toward other school employees and administrative staff.

No wonder the Teacher’s Union wants to take over. After all, morale is low!
