Rain dampers Warrior Homecoming

Last Friday, the Fallbrook Warriors hosted the Rancho Buena Vista (RBV) Longhorns in the annual Homecoming game. On a night filled with fans, alumni, royalty, four floats and tons of rain, the Warriors lost the game — Fallbrook 6, RBV 19.

Overall, the “Warrior D” kept Fallbrook in the game. The game began with a long sustained drive by the Warriors including the run and pass. A pass of 31 yards from Holt to Kerr set up a Holt QB sneak. The score was 6-0 after a blocked PAT. However, after a few missed opportunities by the Warriors, the score was RBV 13, Fallbrook 6 going into the half.

In the second half, the Fallbrook D held their ground as the score remained unchanged until the rain began. Lightning filled the sky and the officials declared a ten-minute delay to let the storm pass. The Fallbrook team was still ready to play and hoped to continue. The Fallbrook crowd went wild as the team took to the field one more time and prepared for a score. Led by the fans, the Warriors looked like they would come back into the game and saddle up the Longhorns. However, after a few sacks the Warriors fell short. The D gave up a last-minute touchdown making the final score Fallbrook 6, RBV 19.

The Warriors played a decent game and were just one or two plays away from winning. The offensive standouts for the game included: Aaron Atkins (45 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving), Cody McDole (49 yards rushing), Aaron Holt (25 yards rushing, 161 yards passing), Nick Hayes (44 yards rushing, 65 yards receiving), J.T. Kerr (one catch for 31 yards) and Matt Napier (two catches for 22 yards). The defensive standouts were: Cody McDole (four tackles), Will Evans (four tackles and a sack), Jake Ware (eight tackles) and Alderez Siaton (three tackles and an interception).

Despite the varsity team loss, the freshman and junior varsity teams completely destroyed the Longhorns. The varsity Warriors played a solid game as they continue to improve each outing. The Warriors had a very enthusiastic crowd on Friday and hope to compete in front of many loyal fans again this week. The game is on October 20 at home against Vista. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:30. Come and support the Fallbrook Warriors!
