China bikers ride, rain or shine!

Thirty-five eighth grade students and a number of parents from Zion Lutheran School will be heading for the People’s Republic of China on Friday morning, October 27. The bikers have been gathering on Saturday mornings at 7:00 a.m. to condition themselves for the coming trip. They bike along the San Luis Rey Bike Trail in Oceanside to practice proper techniques and safety procedures. They also plan to bike enough miles to ensure they can handle the distances in China. This past Saturday they biked about 23 miles, the last half hour of the ride in the rain.

This will be Zion’s fourth annual trip to China. The purpose of the trip is to give participants an opportunity to serve others in a cross-cultural setting. The group will spend three full days in Hong Kong and seven days biking in rural southern China, the location of their service work with the rural poor. This year Zion students will be joined by 16 participants from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Pacific Beach, bringing the total number of participants to fifty-one. This group will be split into two groups, a northern and southern group, each with their own service project. The groups will be headed by Mr. Dan Fischer and Mr. Michael Majewski, teachers at Zion Lutheran School in Fallbrook.
