Speech contest held by MRCD

FALLBROOK — For the last 20 years, Mission Resource Conservation District has conducted a speech contest for high school students interested in addressing conservation issues. This year, the topic, “Biofuels – the Energy of the Future,” attracted 12 contestants. Judges for the contest included Paul McGrade, CEO of Redbank Creek and owner of the first “Bio-Willie” biofuel station in San Diego; Anne Burdick, Mission RCD District Director; and George McManigle, Fallbrook Planning Group and Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce.

The first place winner was Amy Hansen, 17, Fallbrook High School. Second place went to Julianne Duffin, Fallbrook High School FFA. Hansen will represent the Southern California Association of Resource Conservation District at the Resource Conservation District’s state conference on November 3 in Santa Rosa.
