Boutique surprises clubs with fashion show

When Fallbrook’s Encore Club hosted the Fall Luncheon for members of their organization as well as members of the Fallbrook Newcomers Club on October 18, little did they know a popular downtown boutique would surprise the friendly group by providing a fashion show to add to the ambiance. Divas Clothing Boutique, located in the heart of the Friendly Village, orchestrated a fashion show with ten models that touched all ages and styles.

“Dottie Lord was coordinating the fashion show for Encore and her close friend Dori Larsen works at Divas; they thought up this great idea for a surprise fashion show and approached me about it,” said Catherine Boggs, owner of Divas. Boggs said she was thrilled with the idea and they began planning for the event.

“What we tried to do was present fashions that would appeal to ladies in their late 20s all the way up to those in their 80s and 90s,” Boggs said. “We started off with the Black Opal Lifestyle Collection by Karen Kane and showed a collection of holiday apparel, work and play outfits and evening apparel as well as casual jeans, tops and sweaters.” Boggs said she easily composed complete outfits that stayed within a $200 price point.

Since Divas is a supporter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Boggs provided a pink rose for every lady at the luncheon to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The roses were distributed by the models as they made their way around the tables.

The event, held at Churon Winery in Temecula, allowed Encore and Newcomer members and their husbands/partners an opportunity to mingle on the balconies overlooking the vineyard while sipping wine from this French chateau winery. Members agreed that Churon provided an elegant luncheon for the group.

“I have to say, from my perspective, Churon was just wonderful,” Boggs said. “It was done really, really well.”

New residents to the area find the Newcomers Club the perfect organization for making new friendships. A variety of activities and social engagements are offered for members. Its sister organization, the Encore Club, provides an opportunity to transition and remain involved after their length of residency surpasses newcomer status.

Divas, located at Alvarado and Main since 2001, was purchased by Boggs in May of 2005. Described as upbeat, fun and contagious, Divas is a popular social spot where customers stop in just to see each other while browsing through the latest unique clothing offered.

“Most of the lines we bring in you cannot find in major department stores; we really try to do a lot of personal outfitting for customers — colors and fabrics that look good on them and accentuate the positive,” Boggs said. With a selection that is geared toward women age 30 to retirement, Divas is a popular choice for eveningwear, holiday outfits, sweat suits, cotton capris, designer jeans, shoes and many other accessories.
