NHRA Hot Rod reunion takes place

On October 6-8 the Auto Club of So Cal at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA, presented the National Hot Road Association’s (NHRA) 15th annual California Hot Rod reunion, a three-day event of speed, hot rods and American automotive enthusiasm.

Jim Scott of Fallbrook has an extensive history in drag racing, which began when he was a kind in 1959. At the Hot Rod reunion he was driving “The Rattler,” a front-engine dragster owned by the NHRA Museum in Pomona. The car was originally owned and fully restored by Danny Porche.

Avid NHRA fans Lauren and Ken Seals, also of Fallbrook, attended the event as guest of Grand Marshall Roland Leong, who was the owner of “The Hawaiian” Funny Car. It, too, was fired up for the event.

The reunion brings to life the sights, sounds and people who made history in the early days of drag racing, land speed racing and the golden age of American car culture.
