Meet two local authors at the Bottom Shelf

The Bottom Shelf bookstore will continue its “Meet the Author” series on Saturday, October 28, with appearances by John Strege, author of “When War Played Through: Golf During WWII,” at 10:30 a.m. and Terry Dennis, author of “The Manual: A Guide for Guys in the 21st Century,” at 1:30 p.m. Each of the authors will have books available for sale and signing and will answer questions and/or discuss their subjects.

Strege’s book is the account of how golf, the game of the privileged, played a substantial role in support of the war effort. Golfing greats such as Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen participated in fundraisers for the American Red Cross and an exhibition tour including Bob Hope and Bing Crosby helped the PGA raise money to buy ambulances for the Red Cross. Dennis’s book offers a no-holds-barred commentary on what she feels is on men’s minds and frank talk about how to please a modern woman.

The Bottom Shelf, located on the lower level of the library at 124 South Mission, is operated by Friends of the Fallbrook Library and all proceeds benefit the library and its programs. The bookstore is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call (760) 728-3835.
