Woman killed in SR-76 accident

BONSALL — On October 19 at approximately 1:27 p.m., Torpekai Baha, a 56-year-old Rancho Bernardo resident driving a Toyota Camry, was parked on the right shoulder of westbound SR-76 east of North River Road. A 2003 Kenworth truck tractor with two Beall dump trailers driven by Paula Lee Johnston, 52, from Chino, was traveling on westbound SR-76 approaching the Toyota. The driver made a U-turn from the shoulder in front of the approaching truck tractor. The front of the truck tractor broadsided the driver’s side of the Toyota. Baha sustained fatal injuries and did not appear to be wearing her seatbelt. Johnston, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries.

Both directions of SR-76 were closed for approximately four hours as the scene was investigated and cleared.
