Panthers pounce on Warriors

On Friday, October 20, the Fallbrook Warriors hosted the Vista Panthers in a hotly contested football league game. The Warriors played hard again but were unable to close the scoring gap. The final score was Vista 15, Fallbrook 6. The entire Warrior defense was stellar, as they only allowed 15 points and no points in the second half. They produced two big turnovers and gave great field position to the offense, which just wasn’t able to convert their good fortune into scores.

In the first half, the Warriors gave up a touchdown on the first drive and the Panthers got two more points when a high snap to the punter went into the end zone. Warrior punter Rogelio Zamudio alertly kicked the ball out of the back end zone for a safety. On the punt following the safety, Vista muffed the catch, fumbling it with Fallbrook gaining possession. The ball was recovered at their own 46 by Bryan Dunckel. The Warrior offense could not capitalize on the recovery.

The Warriors got their first and only score when Cody McDole ran two yards for a touchdown. The run was set up by a pass interference call and 14 yards rushing on two carries by Alderez Siaton. The score after a missed PAT was Warriors 6, Panthers 9. The Panthers drove right back with a touchdown, making the final score of the night Warriors 6, Panthers 15. The second half featured good defense by both teams and unproductive offensive series in a back-and-forth contest affected by costly penalties on both sides.

The Warriors were in the game until late in the fourth quarter but could not convert on many of their drives. The Warriors look forward to their game this Friday against Oceanside at 7:30 p.m. in Oceanside. The Warriors could use your support for what promises to be a tough contest against a longtime rival in hostile territory. See you next week when Fallbrook seeks to gain a big victory.
