Groundbreaking stirs memories of Citrus Plant

A group of firefighters gazed out at the shell of the citrus plant on the morning of the groundbreaking for what is being called Citrus Plaza. Rick Rees, one of the firefighters who fought the blaze in 1991, said what he remembered most from that day was the orange glow he could see from Interstate 15 on his way to the scene.

The mood was cheerful on the morning of October 25 as community members gathered to celebrate the improvements about to occur.

“I can’t wait to see this done,” said Supervisor Bill Horn. He also noted that a library should be built in the area in a couple of years.

The funds garnered from recycling materials from the building were given to the Fallbrook Land Conservancy. “We appreciate even more the concerns for the environment [than the donation,]” said conservancy representative Wallace Tucker.

The building is scheduled to be completed in about a year and will house storage units and office space.
