County accepts wildfire education grant

The Farm and Home Advisor department of the County of San Diego will be receiving a $323,780 grant to create and establish a wildfire community research, education, and outreach program.

The Federal Emergency Management Association and the US Fire Administration offered the funds, and a unanimous San Diego County Board of Supervisors vote October 18 made acceptance of the grant official. The grant funds will enable the development of comprehensive educational tools, materials and information in accessible formats. The Farm and Home Advisor has begun an outreach education program to complement the county’s fire safety and fuels reduction program implemented in 2004.

The grant has no local match requirements, and any ongoing operational costs will be absorbed by the annual Farm and Home Advisor budget. The outreach program will be designed and implemented to minimize ongoing operational costs.
