Soroptimists offering grants, awards

The Fallbrook Soroptimists are seeking young women between 14 and 17 who volunteer in the community or schools as nominees for the Violet Richardson Award. The Violet Richardson Award program recognizes young women who make the world a better place through volunteer efforts. There is a $250 cash grant awarded in honor of the winner to her volunteer organization. People with names of nominees should contact Gayle Marrocco at (760) 728-7223 or (760) 728-4828. Deadline for completed applications is December 1.

Soroptimist International of Fallbrook is a volunteer service organization for business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in the community and throughout the world.

Women who serve as primary wage-earners for their families and seek financial assistance to go to school can now obtain applications for the Women’s Opportunity Awards Program, Soroptimist International of Fallbrook’s major service project. The applicant must be attending or have been accepted to an undergraduate degree or vocational skills training program. Applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce, (760) 728-5845; People to People Services, (760) 728-0175; or by contacting Gayle Marrocco at the phone numbers listed above. Completed applications must be returned by December 15. There will be a $575 cash grant to the award recipient, who will then advance to the regional level, where one recipient will receive $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards.
