Back gate barrio

On behalf of the neighbors on and around Alturas, I would like to thank the Department of Environmental Services and Code Enforcement for helping us clean up a few unsightly issues, the Department of Public Works for clearing the weeds from the street by the cemetery and the cemetery volunteers who trim the trees, cut back the weeds and keep it from becoming a forgotten overgrown patch. Thank you to whoever repaired, painted and cleared the weeds and cut back the trees at the Alturas Park. Thank you to the Community Enhancement Officer who patrols the back gate neighborhoods, the CHP Officer who knows this as home and who makes a few extra rounds and to the volunteers who ticket over-parked/abandoned cars.

I personally believe that some of Fallbrook is missing the whole concept of what a village is. Here there is a vast array and mixture of cultures. There is no other place in town that has a collection of Fallbrook life like our neighborhood.

In our barrio we have an ice cream seller, a wonderful taco stand, Neighborhood Watch and neighborhood get-togethers. We mourn when the guy next door is sent to Iraq; we mourn when the neighbor’s cat gets run over. We have watched each other bring new life to this world and we have watched each other’s loved ones pass on from this world. The Back Gate Barrio is really the hub of Fallbrook. So, thank you to all of you who have been helping to clean up our neighborhood.

We still have a way to go, and the area between Ammunition, Aviation and Alturas would be perfect place to start. We need help in cleaning up that area of the riverbed. That land and water has become overgrown with brush and trash. My kid used to play down there when it was clean, so please, can this town take one year and make a concentrated effort to one area? The river that runs through our town, connecting us all, needs help.
