Warrior water polo finishes fourth in league

Fallbrook High School’s boys water polo team ended the regular season with a 20-3 loss at Carlsbad November 3, but the Warriors still finished with a 5-5 league record good for fourth place in the Avocado League.

“We beat a couple of good teams along the way,” said Fallbrook coach Bob Lamont. “Had a lot of close games this season.”

The Warriors had an overall regular-season record of 12-15. “It’s what we did two years ago, so we’re kind of sustaining,” Lamont said. “We need to do some things to improve.

Five of Fallbrook’s matches were one-goal games. Fallbrook won only one of the contests decided by a single goal while losing the other four in overtime.

“With the exception of Carlsbad all our games were good games, close games, not too many blowouts,” Lamont said.

Carlsbad finished undefeated in its ten Avocado League games. Second place in the league standings went to Vista, whose 7-3 conference record reflects two losses to Carlsbad and one defeat against Fallbrook. Rancho Buena Vista, who finished third in the league standings, also lost to the Warriors.

“It’s a good crew. It’s a pleasure coaching this year,” Lamont said.

The Warrior water polo team has five seniors, three of whom were starters.
