Art Assoc. offering demonstration, workshop

The Fallbrook Art Association’s January general meeting will feature Laguna Beach’s award-winning plein air oil painter Ken Auster at 1 p.m., January 13, at the Hilltop Center, 331 East Elder. Preceding the meeting, there will be an informal “Eat ’n Critique” session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants in the critique are encouraged to bring one or two “paintings in progress” plus a snack or box lunch to eat during the session. The meeting and critique session are open to the public at no charge. For more information about membership, contact please Shirley Williams at (760) 451-8664.

While working his way toward a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from Long Beach State University, Auster built one of the world’s most prominent silkscreen and t-shirt companies, creating now-legendary surfing art that adorned surfers from Belmont Shores to Hawaii to Mexico. His surfing images, silk-screened as original prints on paper, became the “fine art” of this beach culture and today represent the classic surf art of the past century.

Auster will also hold a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 14 at the Art Campus at Fallbrook’s School of Art, 310 East Alvarado. For more information about the workshop, including cost, contact Marlene Sheridan at [email protected] or [email protected].
