This holiday season, my family gives thanks for being able to send our daughter to a school with the vision to see the possibilities of everything she can do and not limit her because of what she can’t. I am also thankful for the right to choose alternative, innovative education that is working.
I like that I meet with her teacher every six weeks and carve out an individualized learning plan. I am grateful that she doesn’t have to wait before she learns new things because some of the other children need a bit more help and that the others don’t have to wait for her when she needs extra help. I am amazed to see how much more confident she is in everything she does, literally.
I took the better part of two years researching where I wanted to send my daughter before I chose The New School. I didn’t even know much about charter schools when I started. But once I read about them and understood the amazing things that can be accomplished when the extra bureaucracy is removed, there was no other option for my family. I’m hooked. I can’t wait until my other daughter is old enough to attend.
Without exception, every child shines there.
