Pop Warner Cheer Squad advances to nationals!

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Pop Warner Chiefs Cheer Squad has a lot to be cheering about. This past weekend the young ladies placed first in their division (Junior Midget, Large Intermediate) at the Pop Warner Wescon Regional Cheer & Dance competition, following a previous win at the Palomar Conference local competition. The first-place win at regional advances the squad to the Pop Warner National Cheer & Dance competition at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.

The squad of 20 girls ages 10 to 12, along with coaches Vickie Mahr, Jonelle Mast, Allyson Abbott and Karen Miller (and the support of a dedicated group of parents), have been cheering together since August 1 of this year. Several of the girls on the squad have never been in cheerleading before, and some of them don’t even have any dance background. This is a tremendous accomplishment for such a new and young squad.

The trip to Florida, however, is not free. It costs approximately $800 to $1,000 per cheerleader (plus the costs for chaperones) to attend this event. They are working very hard to raise the funds in time. The group is supposed to leave on Tuesday, December 5, but they have to book the trip right away.

This is a life-changing opportunity for these young ladies. To have achieved all that they have and to get the recognition they deserve is more than anyone could have hoped for. It would be heartbreaking if they couldn’t go to nationals because of a lack of funds.

Those who would like to donate/sponsor the squad are asked to e-mail Coach Vickie at [email protected] or call her at (760) 723-1524.
