Pearl Harbor survivors honored at Live Oak School

Harriet Holmes, a Pearl Harbor survivor, is welcomed to Live Oak Elementary School on December 1 by Principal Tom Rhine. Holmes served as a nurse at Tripler Army Medical Hospital during the bombing. The school honored several survivors of Pearl Harbor with a special ceremony.

Bill Greenhouse was assigned to the Marine Airbase at Ewa, HI, during the Pearl Harbor attack.

Joe Walsh, pictured with Principal Rhine, served in the USMC during World War II. He had just returned from Midway Island and was dockside when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

John Quier was assigned to the USS Dobbin, a destroyer tender, during the attack. His ship was surrounded by battleships, including the USS Arizona. The Dobbin was hit by enemy bombs. After the initial attack, Quier was assigned to a motor launch to
