Local athlete earns all-American honors at cross country championship

Fallbrook resident Maija Rohde, along with teammates Pilar Delgado and Karla Alburez, recently led California State University – Los Angeles’ Golden Eagles to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship at the Escambria County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, FL. Delgado, Alburez and Rohde (16th, 24th and 29th, respectively), by virtue of their placement in the race, earned all-American honors and trophies. The fourth place finish is the best national ranking in Cal State LA cross country history.

Prior to Nationals, Cal State LA won the NCAA West Region Cross Country title with Maija Rohde finishing seventh, behind Delgado in fourth and Alburez in fifth, all three earning all-region honors and plaques.

Rohde is a 2002 Fallbrook High School graduate who was a member of the varsity cross country team for four years, which included Fallbrook’s 2001 CIF SDS Championship season.
