African children in need of sponsors

There are 400 children living in a small village named Kogoya in Malawi, Africa, who have lost either one or both of their parents. This is not an unusual situation in Africa, but this village is different – it has been blessed with mission-minded Christians in Fallbrook who want to make a difference in the lives of theses children.

One example is a family of five children ages 2 to 12 who lost their mother due to malaria and were virtually abandoned by their father. The roof of their house was so riddled with holes that during the rainy season the children had to sleep standing up so they would not have to lay in the mud. There was no door on the house, so snakes, rodents and insects were able to enter. Because these children are now sponsored, they have a covering over the house, a door has been installed and they are being fed every day.

Although 210 of the children from this village have already been sponsored by members of the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church – and 25 through another endeavor – there are still 165 who are in need of care.

Sponsoring a child would enable that child to attend school, have a healthy meal every day and be raised with the knowledge of Jesus’ love through daily discipleship. Just $35 a month would give one of these children life, hope and a future.

Miqlat, a Hebrew word meaning “a place of refuge,” is the San Diego-based organization that sponsors this program. For more information or to become a sponsor, contact Bill Saunders at (760) 728-7859.
