BONSALL — On December 4 at 5:18 a.m., 54-year-old Mija Throneson of Bonsall was driving a 2005 Hyundai Accent eastbound on SR-76 west of Mission Road at an unknown speed. Robert Steven Castillo, 42, from San Clemente was traveling westbound on SR-76 at an unknown speed in a 2003 Ford Thunderbird when, for reasons unknown, he lost control of his vehicle and struck the right curb. The Ford traveled out of control sideways into the eastbound land and spun 180 degrees, coming to rest facing eastbound. The front of the Hyundai collided with the rear of the Ford as it was stopped in the eastbound lane.

Throneson sustained major injuries and Castillo sustained moderate injuries. Both were transported to Palomar Medical Center, where Throneson was pronounced dead at 7:44 a.m.

This collision is being investigated by Officer R.L. Pirko, #17304.
