Gordon L. Myers

Gordon L. Myers, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on December 15, 2006, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. Phyllis, his loving wife of 51 years, and sons Russell V. and Ronald C. were with him at the end and will truly miss his caring presence.

Gordon, the only child of Victor E. and Leona (Curtis) Myers, was born on March 27, 1930, in Ionia, MI.

Gordon joined the Navy at age 17. After Great Lakes Training, his duty was aboard the USS Pocono stationed at Newport News, VA. Upon his discharge from the military, he attended California Flyers’ Aeronautical in Inglewood, CA. He was a licensed aircraft and engine mechanic and was employed by United Airlines in Los Angeles and Des Moines, IA.

Gordon joined TWA in 1955 as a flight engineer, going on to be a first officer and a captain during the following 30 years. He was proud to be a crewmember on all the Constellation Fleet, the Boeing 727 and 767 and the Convair aircraft. His stations were Chicago (Midway) and Los Angeles.

Gordon married Phyllis (Evans) Myers on October 23, 1955, in Oskaloosa, IA. Son Russell was born in 1957 and son Ronald was born in 1963. The family resided in Country Club Hills, IL.

A resident of Fallbrook since 1965, Gordon enjoyed retirement with travel and cruises, membership with retired pilots and his most cherished friendships and golf at San Luis Rey.

While his family mourns his loss, they are comforted by the knowledge that he no longer suffers from the illness that plagued him. Gordon will rest at peace beside his parents, grandparents and other family members in Saranac, MI.

A remembrance of life will be held at the San Luis Rey Country Club on January 24, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial donations to the Elizabeth Hospice, 150 West Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.
