'Recipes, Ramblings, and Reminiscences' available from DBE

Newly published cookbooks from the Excalibur Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) are selling like home-baked hotcakes! Entitled “Recipes, Ramblings, and Reminiscences,” this colorful, comb-bound publication has just arrived in Fallbrook, hot off the press from Cookbook Publishers, Inc. Contributors from the DBE Excalibur Chapter – now 44 members strong – have already bought over 100 copies of the publication for themselves and friends, but there are still plenty left for the general public. Copies may be reserved by calling Sarah Dungworth at (760) 731-9989.

The book was the brainchild of Sue Thorne, a longtime member of the Fallbrook chapter who thought it would be fun to combine favorite recipes from various parts of the world with British food reminiscences. She wants to make it clear, however, that putting the publication together was not a one-person job: “Our sincere appreciation goes to the many local businesses who bought advertisements. We hope all readers will support them. And, of course, the book would not have been possible without the assistance of a great committee.”

Committee members were:

• Maggie Donovan, a keen researcher and proofreader who worked so hard to find local advertisers

• Pam Wolk, who was also tenacious in setting ads, as well as working tirelessly with the publisher to see the project through to completion

• Nancy Holgate and Nancy Zybach, who were invaluable as proofreaders and promoters

• Sarah Dungworth (Excalibur regent) and Rosemary Sterling (treasurer), who kept the committee on track and made sure that Excalibur’s books balanced!

“We think you’ll enjoy this unique cookbook for its special Fallbrook flavor,” Thorne notes. “In addition to a section entitled ‘Everything Avocado,’ it offers a treasure hunt of food and fantasy. For instance, didn’t you always want to know how to cook an elephant or a camel, or how to preserve a husband?”

Like all endeavors of the nonprofit organization, sales of the cookbook help support the British Retirement Home in Sierra Madre, CA, as well as other local charities such as the Fallbrook Senior Center and REINS.
