Wrestling team holds first annual Sponsors Appreciation Night

On Wednesday, December 6, the Fallbrook High School wrestling team and booster club held the first annual Sponsors Appreciation Night to thank the amazing people who have so generously supported the team so far this season. Team sponsors received a plaque with a team picture on it, a certificate of appreciation, tickets to all home duals and a team warm-up jacket. The Adopt-A-Wrestler sponsors received a plaque with the adopted wrestler’s picture on it, a certificate of appreciation and a team t-shirt. With their help and that of numerous anonymous donors and all who participated in the team’s car wash and gold ticket fundraisers, more money has been raised than ever before to cover expenses the high school’s budget cannot and to continue building the wrestling program. The team thanks everyone from the bottom of their hearts!

The weekend before, December 1 and 2, the freshman and sophomore teams wrestled for the first time this season at the Vista Frosh/Soph Tournament. They took third place overall out of the 17 teams that competed and eight Fallbrook wrestlers won individual medals in their respective weight classes: Bret Jones at 103 pounds and Jake Gandy at 152 pounds took first place, while David Lopez at 112 pounds, Henry Sosa at119 pounds and Sean Foley at 135 pounds took second place and Michael Granata at160 pounds, Brian Long at 189 pounds and Gabriel San Miguel at 189 pounds took third. These wonderful performances hold great promise for the future of the team.

Tomorrow, the varsity team will be competing in the San Diego Holiday Classic Tournament at Eastlake High School in Chula Vista. This is the first local tournament of this season, so everyone is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and turn out to show their support for the team and cheer the wrestlers on to success. Then, on the following Friday and Saturday, December 21 and 22, the varsity team will be traveling to Reno to challenge some of the best wrestlers in the nation at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

Last but not least, any individual or company wishing to become a team sponsor or seeking further information on supporting the boys and girls should contact Bonnie Wagaman at (760) 473-5203. Go Fallbrook Warriors!
