Supes approve $40K for Beech Street Park work

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved appropriations of $40,000 for improvements at Fallbrook Central Mini-Park.

The supervisors’ December 6 approval authorizes an agreement to provide $34,000 to the Fallbrook Village Association, which maintains the park known both as Fallbrook Central Mini-Park and Beech Street Park, and also establishes $6,000 of appropriations for county administrative costs related to the improvements. The $40,000 was obtained from Park Land Dedication Ordinance fees provided by developers to fund park improvements in the community of a development.

The small park in central Fallbrook was purchased in 1993 after the Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with the Fallbrook Village Association to provide $279,467 in Community

Development Block Grant funds for the initial purchase of the site. In 1994 an agreement between the county and the Fallbrook Village Association provided $23,000 of PLDO funds to install landscaping, fencing, and lighting, and in 2002 an allocation of $11,500 from PLDO funds allowed the replacement of old playground equipment and the installation of signage, wood fiber surfacing, benches, trash containers, and irrigation.

The Fallbrook Village Association wishes to replace the existing irrigation system with a low water use system featuring a weather-based controller. The FVA also wishes to replace the original wood fence with heavy-duty wood grain concrete fencing, install a new stairway to connect the upper and lower portions of the park, and install a ramp into the play area which meets current Americans with Disabilities Act standards and current safety standards. Park lighting will also be upgraded with the funding, including the installation of motion detector lighting. Iron gates will be installed at the trash collection area.

All of the improvements will be maintained by the Fallbrook Village Association upon completion.
