Linfield Cagers capture tourney title

Led by Fallbrook residents Josh Sandberg and Weston Taylor, the Linfield Christian boys varsity basketball team is in full stride.

Last weekend, after the Lions defeated Desert Chapel (Palm Springs, CA) 43-42 and ended tournament play with a perfect 4-0 record, they were crowned champions of the Second Annual Linfield Christian Caged Classic. The event included eight public and private schools from the southern California area.

Sandberg, a six-foot, six-inch senior post player, was selected to the all-tournament team after he averaged more than 11 points per game. He also recorded 11 blocks over four games. With 30 blocks this season, averaging 2.3 per game, Sandberg is the Big Sky League leader and is listed in the top 25 of all players in the CIF southern section.

Taylor, a six-foot, one-inch point guard, had an excellent tournament as well. He recorded seven three-pointers while averaging 15 points and five assists per game over the four days. He is currently ranked number 35 for total assists in the CIF southern section.

Linfield Christian, a 400-student prep school located in Temecula, begins league play next week.
