Darlyne Anita Bright

The Great Spirit that breathes in all of us welcomed home a beloved daughter, Darlyne Anita Bright, on January 9, 2007, at the age of 78 in Carlsbad, CA. Darlyne was born in Los Angeles, CA, on June 27, 1928, to Doris and Harold Dahlgren. She had one brother, Ron, 11 years her junior. She attended Huntington Park High School, after which she worked as a dental assistant until her marriage to William Charles Bright on December 13, 1951. The couple created three children, whom they raised in Long Beach and Fallbrook, CA.

Darlyne was a dedicated and devoted mother and homemaker who enjoyed providing a beautiful home environment for her family. She especially enjoyed holiday decorating and celebrating in her Swedish heritage traditions. She was a longstanding member of Fallbrook Presbyterian Church and while living in Port Angeles became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

After the children left home, Bill and Darlyne moved to the beach in Oceanside, and then later to Lakeshore Gardens in Carlsbad. They enjoyed traveling the US and Canada in their motor home; they especially enjoyed visiting their grandchildren in Washington and Colorado. They made many friends throughout their lifetime travels and Darlyne became an avid correspondent, remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates with cards and letters.

After the passing of her beloved husband Bill in 1995, Darlyne move to Port Angeles, WA, to live with her daughter Cherie’s family. For seven years she enjoyed family life in Port Angeles until 2002, when she and Cherie moved back to Carlsbad. Due to a progressive illness, Darlyne moved into Brighton Gardens, Carlsbad, while Cherie stayed close by in her parents’ mobile home. Darlyne was surrounded by extraordinary people whose care and sharing created a most loving and nurturing environment in her later years.

Darlyne fully enjoyed what life offered her, especially simple pleasures with her children, grandchildren and husband of 44 years. She considered her family her greatest accomplishment and said that was what made life worthwhile. Darlyne had a sensitive spirit with unconditional love and generosity for all and Grace from her Lord. Darlyne will be sorely missed by many, including her brother Ron Dahlgren; her three children, Cherie, William Jr. and David; and her eight grandchildren, Stephanie and Beau Haygood, William III, Breauna, Carley, Cloie, David O. and Peter Bright; as well as numerous other family and friends in California and Washington.

A Time of Remembrance will be held January 20, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park and Mortuary, 455 West Central Avenue, Brea, CA.

Donations in Darlyne’s memory can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, 4950 Murphy Canyon St., San Diego, CA 92123.
