Voting systems to be reviewed

Debra Bowen, installed January 8 as California Secretary of State, has appointed attorney Lowell Finley as her deputy in charge of voting machinery. Mr. Finley is the co-founder and co-director of the election-integrity group Voter Action and one of the nation’s top critics of unverifiable electronic voting systems. He has been a key player across several states in the legal battles against voting machine companies such as Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia Voting Systems. In his new capacity, Finley will oversee testing and certification for all voting machine technology in the State of California.

Ms. Bowen was quoted as saying she expects Finley to have a lead role in her promised “top-to-bottom review” of voting systems used in the state. I say this is very welcome news.
